Georgian Cut Steel Diamond Eye Buckle and Pearl Silver Necklace.

A Georgian gem of a cut steel buckle has been transformed into a 3rd eye necklace with the addition of a freshwater flat pearl hanging from an inner corner of this beautiful piece. It was likely a hair adornment originally and measures ¾" (2cm approx) square. This 'diamond' hangs from a lightly oxidised 17" (46cm) silver belcher chain.

One of our all time favourite pieces.

The refracted surface of cut steel was known as poor man's diamonds.

Production of Cut Steel is thought to have begun in the 16thC. From 1750 decorative pieces began to appear as "Stars for the nobility" with  jewellery and hair adornments among the designs and often combined with precious jewels. In the late 18thC a Birmingham manufacturer began major production creating cut steel shoe buckles to adorn the shoes of Georgian men and women.

All Badger's Velvet jewellery is unique made using vintage pieces sourced around the world then re-purposed by one of our two jewellers to create beautiful contemporary pieces.
