Georgian Cut Steel Buckle Pearl & Silver Necklace

Georgian Cut Steel Shoe Buckle Necklace with Freshwater Pearl

This fabulous Georgian cut steel shoe buckle necklace has been beautifully transformed into a striking piece of jewellery, featuring a luminous freshwater pearl set at its centre.

The original 18th century cut steel buckle, measuring approximately 6cm x 4cm, now hangs elegantly from a silver belcher chain, creating a bold and distinctive statement necklace. The highly faceted surface of cut steel reflects light brilliantly, earning it the nickname “poor man’s diamonds.”

History of Cut Steel Jewellery
Production of cut steel jewellery began in the 16th century. From around 1750, decorative designs such as “stars for the nobility”, hair ornaments, and fine jewellery became highly fashionable, often combined with precious gemstones. By the late 18th century, manufacturers in Birmingham were producing elaborate cut steel shoe buckles worn by the aristocracy, making them iconic symbols of Georgian fashion.

This necklace preserves that rich heritage while giving the piece new life as contemporary wearable art.
