Georgian Fine Cut Steel Buckle Necklace.
Probably one of the finest Georgian Cut Steel buckles we have acquired.
This rounded oblong buckle consists of 3 rows of different sized cut steel studs and measures 2" x 1" (5cm x 2.5cm) and hangs from an 18" (46cm) silver belcher chain. The refracted surface of the dark cut steel contrasts beautifully with this silver chain.
Production of Cut Steel is thought to have begun in the 16thC. From 1750 decorative pieces began to appear, as "Stars for the nobility" jewellery and hair adornments among the designs and often combined with precious jewels . In the late 18thC a Birmingham manufacturer began major production creating cut steel shoe buckles to adorn the shoes of Georgian men and women
All Badger's Velvet jewellery is unique. It is made using vintage pieces sourced around the world , re-purposed by one of our two jewellers creating beautiful contemporary pieces.
